ICYMI: Big Rig ROCK Report For 12.21.23

IS JIMI HENDRIX GETTING THE AI TREATMENT?

Music fans everywhere know by now that we have AI to thank for one final song from The Beatles… even after half their band passed away. But according to one producer, we might also get new music from legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, thanks to technology.

“Yes, there are tapes that I would love to get my hands on with (archivist) John (McDermott) and Janie (Hendrix, Jimi’s step-sister),” admitted Eddie Kramer. “And say ‘Hey, maybe we can do X or Y.” The music vet, who recently mixed the just-released “Jimi Hendrix Experience: Hollywood Bowl August 18, 1967,” said there’s nothing in the works… but left fans with “(I’m) very curious to see what the future holds.”

ROLLING STONES: Takin' "Tina" on Tour

Sometimes getting fired from a job is the best thing that could happen to you. In June of 2022, Chanel Haynes, who played Tina Turner in the London production of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, was fired from her last three performances after skipping work to perform with The Rolling Stones in Milan, Italy when backup singer Sasha Allen was unable to make the show.

Well, that move has paid off for Chanel, as the Stones have hired her for their 2024 tour

A source tells The Sun, “The Stones had a very close relationship with Tina, and Chanel blew them away when she got up on stage with them. Chanel has now been booked as one of their backing singers and will be going out on tour with them across America in the spring... It means the world to her, and the band were just pleased they could help her out.”

The tour starts on April 28th in Houston.

Sydney Sweeney Says She Wasn’t Objectified By The Rolling Stones

Recently, Blur frontman Damon Albarn lashed out at the Rolling Stones for what he says was their “objectified” use of actress Sydney Sweeney in their music video for “Angry.” But the “Euphoria” star thinks that Albarn and those who share his opinion should slow their role. “I find empowerment through embracing the body that I have,” the actress fired back. “That’s sexy and strong, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. I’m in a Rolling Stones video. How cool and iconic is that?”

Planned Series About The Stones Dropped By FX, Needs Home

A planned series about the early days of The Rolling Stones is looking for a new home.

The show was originally in production at FX, but its producer, Andy Harries, says he’s now shopping the project again. Harris explained, “It’s not in with FX [anymore], unfortunately. It did take a tumble out because of the cutbacks at Disney. It was just too expensive and too ambitious for the immediate agenda.”

The planned series was first announced in 2020, with The Stones giving permission for their music to be used in the show. Harris says, “It really needs a writer with a specific vision for it. It needs a showrunner attached who’s got the time and the energy and is totally absorbed by it.”

METALLICA: Na Na Na Na Na Na - Batman (Riff)!

After months of speculation by fans, Kirk Hammett has admitted Metallica paid tribute to the theme to the 1960s Batman TV for one of the songs on 72 Seasons.

It comes in about four minutes and 20 seconds into "Shadows Follow" and fans started posting videos about how you could sing the theme's lyrics of "Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na" over the riff.

Hammett was asked about that point of the song by Total Guitar and he admitted, "That’s really funny, because we called that riff ‘The Batman Riff’, and I know exactly what you are talking about."

Bruce Springsteen is in talks to headline Glastonbury next year after the deal that was in place for Madonna to perform on the Pyramid stage fell through at the last minute. If an agreement is reached, The Boss will join Dua Lipa and Coldplay as the Pyramid stage's headline acts during the last weekend of June next year. A source told The Sun, "Talks with his team are ongoing” and explained, “Bruce headlined in 2009 and joined Sir Paul McCartney during his set in 2022 and now he is keen to return with his E Street Band."

So, in honor of its 125th anniversary, comes the list of the "Most Influential People Over 125 Years."

ELTON JOHN: Still Schlepping

Elton John said one of the reasons he decided to stop touring was because he was tired of schlepping around the world. But since he brought his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to an end on July 8th in Stockholm, Sweden, he's schlepped to perform at the opening of a water park in the Dominican Republic; at a birthday party in Nashville; at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn, New York; and Tuesday night in Venice, Italy.

He did a private show for 900 people at the Le Gran Teatro La Fenice opera house on the 20th anniversary of a performance he did to commemorate its reconstruction after a 1996 fire.

Tuesday's show was organized by yacht company Ferretti Group, and it was a benefit for Save Venice, which works to preserve the city’s artistic heritage. Elton owns an apartment in Venice.

The 90-minute set featured the hits, including “Rocket Man,” "Your Song," and “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.”

Blunt Criticism Leads To Soundgarden Smash

Soundgarden's best-known song might not even exist if not for a new producer's blunt criticism. During a recent interview, Michael Beinhorn said he had never worked with Soundgarden until he was brought in to produce the album "Superunknown." Beinhorn called the band's demos "second-rate" and told frontman Chris Cornell to write songs that are his "expression." The result was "Black Hole Sun," which Beinhorn said he listened to "15 times in a row" and called it one of the best songs he had ever heard.

Billboard Top 10: Six Songs 60-Plus Years Old

If you feel like you're in a time warp, you must be looking at this week's Billboard top ten. Six of the top ten are Christmas songs that are at least 60 years old. The "newest" of the six songs were released in 1963: "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the World" by Andy Williams at number seven and the Ronettes' 1963 version of "Sleigh Ride" at number eight. Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" from 1958 slips to number two after topping the charts the last two weeks. The other three 1950s Christmas songs in the top ten are "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms, "A Holly Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives and "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" by Dean Martin.
