Violet Grohl is continuing to step into the spotlight as a solo artist with the release of her newest track, “595,” a sultry, retro-inspired song that draws on the vibe of classic phone-line ads.

The track was inspired after Grohl found a vintage T-shirt promoting a phone number, sparking the concept for the song. On the track, she leans into the playful theme with confident lyrics referencing a hotline-style persona.

Musically, “595” carries a distinctly ’90s alternative rock feel, with Grohl’s vocal delivery drawing comparisons to artists like Sheryl Crow. The single is the latest in a series of releases leading up to the announcement of her debut album, Be Sweet to Me.

The album is scheduled to arrive May 29 through Aurora / Republic Records and is currently available for pre-order.

While some fans first recognized Violet Grohl through appearances with her father, Dave Grohl, performing backing vocals for Foo Fighters, she has gradually built her own musical identity. One of her earliest public recordings came in 2021, when she collaborated with her father on a cover of the punk band X’s song “Nausea.”

According to Dave, however, Violet handled the creation of her debut album independently. In an interview on Radio X’s The Chris Moyles Show, he explained that she worked closely with producer Justin Raisen, writing and recording songs largely on her own.

Dave said he was mostly kept out of the process, noting that Violet would simply send him finished songs. He even revealed he didn’t realize she had signed a record deal until she casually mentioned it before dinner one evening.

Grohl worked on the album throughout late 2024 and early 2025, assembling musicians inspired by legendary session groups like The Wrecking Crew. Earlier this year she released the songs “THUM” and “Applefish,” with “595” now joining the growing list of singles ahead of the album’s release.

The singer has said her music draws heavily from the sounds she grew up listening to, citing late-’80s and early-’90s artists as key influences. Among the musicians she points to are Pixies, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins, The Breeders, PJ Harvey, The Muffs, Björk, Alice in Chains, L7 and Juliana Hatfield.

She also references cinematic inspiration, particularly the work of filmmaker David Lynch, whose surreal storytelling style influenced some of her songwriting.

Earlier this year, Grohl released “What’s Heaven Without You,” a song inspired by Lynch that raised funds for people affected by the Altadena wildfires in Los Angeles. The track will appear as a B-side alongside “Swallowtail” on a Record Store Day 7-inch release.

Grohl is also beginning to schedule live performances, including appearances at Pukkelpop Festival in August and Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta this September.

Her debut album, Be Sweet to Me, will feature 11 tracks, including previously released songs and new material.
