Alex Van Halen has revealed he is assembling an album built from previously unreleased recordings by his late brother Eddie Van Halen. In a recent interview with the Brazilian YouTube channel KazaGastao, he said he’s collaborating with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather to complete the material.

According to Alex, the songs come from sessions intended for what would have been the next Van Halen album before Eddie’s death in 2020. Core instrumental tracks — including drums, guitar and bass — were already recorded, with Eddie’s son Wolfgang Van Halen contributing bass parts.

Alex said the project has taken time because he wants the music finished to the same standard as past Van Halen releases rather than issuing rough demos. Lukather is helping shape and connect the recordings, but the team is still searching for a suitable lead vocalist.

Paul Rodgers was considered but declined due to health concerns. Alex said the ideal singer would share a similar musical background and era to the band, noting Robert Plant as a dream fit, though he is currently busy with his own projects. Despite the uncertainty around vocals, Alex expressed confidence the archival album will eventually be completed and released.
