Fans waiting on new music from Slash and Guns N' Roses may not have to wait much longer.
In a recent interview, Slash shared that he, bassist Duff McKagan, and frontman Axl Rose already have plenty of material ready to go.
“We’ve already written a ton of stuff,” Slash said. “We just have to get together and actually go through it, figure out what the songs are, and record them.”
According to Slash, the biggest challenge hasn’t been creativity — it’s been finding time. After nearly a decade of nonstop touring, the band is finally close to slowing down enough to focus.
“It’s probably gonna happen sooner than later,” he added. “We’ve been wanting to do this. It’s just a matter of saying, ‘No distractions. Let’s do it.’”
Guns N’ Roses recently dropped two new songs, “Atlas” and “Nothin’,” their first releases since 2023. Both tracks were originally written years ago during earlier sessions and later updated by the current lineup.
Slash explained that after reuniting, the band went through Axl’s vault of unreleased demos and picked out songs they wanted to rebuild.
“We listened to everything and said, ‘This one would be cool, this one too,’” he said. “Then we took the guitars and bass off and redid them.”
That process started with songs like “Hard Skool” and “Absurd,” and eventually led to “Atlas” and “Nothin’,” which were the last two left unfinished.
While the tracks weren’t written from scratch, Slash said he still enjoyed putting his own stamp on them.
“‘Atlas’ has really cool chord changes,” he shared. “‘Nothin’’ was more spontaneous — just simple and improvised.”
Looking ahead, Slash says the band plans to bundle all of these updated songs into one release. After that, the focus will shift to brand-new material.
“The next record will be all original stuff,” he confirmed. “That’ll be a real album.”
He also touched on how streaming has changed the music industry, especially for rock bands.
“Die-hard fans still want albums and vinyl,” Slash said. “But younger kids are used to singles. It’s weird to navigate. To me, it’s simple — make a record.”
Good news for live fans: “Atlas” and “Nothin’” are expected to make their way into upcoming setlists when the band hits the road this spring.
If and when the album arrives, it will be Guns N’ Roses’ first full studio release since Chinese Democracy and their first full record featuring Slash, Duff, and Axl together since 1993.
