Drummer Tommy Lee says Mötley Crüe has never been more united than it is today, despite more than 45 years together. In a recent chat with YouTuber Bonnie Laufer, Lee compared the band’s relationship to a long-term marriage, noting that their ups and downs have helped solidify their bond over time.

Lee highlighted the impact of new guitarist John 5, who joined the band after original member Mick Mars stepped back from touring. According to Lee, John injected fresh energy into the group, “lighting a fire under everybody” and giving the band renewed inspiration. “We feed off that — we all feed off that,” Lee said, adding that this revitalized spirit has helped bring the members closer than ever.

Discussing Mötley Crüe’s longevity, Lee called himself “fortunate and blessed” that the band is still together and that their fans have stayed loyal through the decades. He reflected on performing old hits differently than when they were first recorded, explaining that reinventing their classics keeps the music exciting for both the band and their audience.

Lee also said he pushes the band to update their songs live rather than merely repeating them night after night. “There’s nothing worse than watching a band phone it in,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to keeping performances fresh.

With new energy inside the group and millions of fans still turning out for shows, Lee’s comments suggest that Mötley Crüe’s creative chemistry remains strong — even as they look toward future projects and tours.
