Cher is opening up about her relationship with boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, addressing once again the public fascination with their 40-year age gap. The music legend, who will turn 80 next May, appeared on CBS Mornings with Gayle King to promote her newly launched Cherlato gelato brand— but the conversation naturally turned to love.
Cher and Edwards, a 39-year-old music executive, have been together on and off for nearly three years after first meeting at Paris Fashion Week in 2022. Despite the scrutiny, Cher says the relationship continues to be a source of joy.
“We laugh all the time. I just love him,” she said, smiling. “I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented— truly one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.”
When asked about critics who question the age difference, Cher’s response was simple: “Whatever.”
“They’re not living my life,” she continued. “Nobody knows what goes on between us. We just have a blast.”
Edwards shares a six-year-old son with model and TV personality Amber Rose, and Cher has formed a bond with him as well, describing the child as “smart, funny, and just a delight.”
Cher joked that she once asked the universe for “a man and a toddler” — and got exactly that.
Their relationship briefly paused in May 2023 amid rumors of infidelity, but the pair quietly reconciled later that yearand have remained close since. Cher has previously acknowledged that, “On paper, it looks ridiculous,” but emphasized that real life is what matters. “He’s fabulous, and I don’t assign men qualities they haven’t earned,” she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
For Cher, the formula is simple: joy over judgment.
