Emergency crews say one man died and two others were hurt in a stabbing outside Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, during Phish’s show on the night of September 19. Police were called to the 1000 block of Coliseum Drive just after 9:30 p.m. ET in response to what had begun as a heated argument that escalated into physical violence.

According to officials, when officers arrived they found two adult males with cuts—one with life-threatening wounds. The first victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Another victim was hospitalized, while a third arrived on foot with a non-life-threatening injury.

The confrontation reportedly took place near an unofficial merchandise booth—behind one of the tents in the venue’s parking lot. Although the suspect fled the scene initially, a possible suspect was detained nearby shortly afterward. Detectives say that all persons involved have since been identified.

Phish issued a statement expressing sorrow over the tragedy, calling the incident “tragic” and confirming that they were “deeply saddened.” Authorities have escalated security presence around the Coliseum and urge anyone who has information to contact Hampton Police or submit an anonymous tip.

The police emphasize they believe this was an isolated incident and not part of a larger pattern. The investigation is ongoing.
