The Harrisonburg Police Department and Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office are alerting the community about a phone scam involving callers pretending to be law enforcement.
Scammers have been contacting residents, claiming they missed jury duty or have a warrant and must pay a fine right away to avoid arrest.
Police stressed that neither agency will ever call demanding payment or ask for gift cards, app transfers, or bank details. They also emphasized that matters like jury duty are not handled over the phone.
Officials urge people to be cautious, hang up immediately if they receive such calls, and never send money to the scammers.
