Genesis played their final show in March 2022, and Phil Collins has been unable to make new music since then because he's been "very sick."

The iconic drummer and singer divulged the sad news during a rare interview with MOJO that corresponds with a new release of Genesis' Lamb Lies Down on Broadway box set. In addition to health issues, Collins also admitted that he doesn't have the same drive to make new music as he used to. “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens,” he explained. “But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick…”

Although he didn't go into detail about what's ailing him, the 73-year-old has experienced some pretty severe health issues throughout the past two decades. He suffered a major spinal injury in 2007 and was also diagnosed with dropped foot (difficulty raising the front of your foot) and chronic neck pain caused by drumming.

Late last year, Drumeo premiered a two-hour documentary about the Genesis drummer/singer, his history of drumming, and the physical limitations he's endured that's prevented him from playing. They also shared a video of him sitting behind a drum kit for the first time in more than a decade.

"It just feels so strange to hold a pair," he admitted in the video, grasping drum sticks. Then he struck a few drums with the stick in his left hand. "That's enough of that," he said quickly. During Genesis' final tour Phil sang from a seated position while his son Nic took over drum duties. His last studio album was 2010's Going Back.
