The Dukes kicked off the season with a memorable upset victory against Michigan State and soared to No. 18 in the AP Top 25 Poll after an undefeated 14-0 start.

During his tenure at James Madison, Coach Byington achieved an overall record of 82 wins and 36 losses. Within conference play, he led the Dukes to a commendable 41-23 record. His impact on the program has been significant, and Vanderbilt’s decision to bring him aboard reflects their commitment to elevating their men’s basketball program.

Now, Byington steps into the role previously occupied by Jerry Stackhouse, who was relieved of his duties earlier this month. Stackhouse's five-season stint at the helm resulted in a record of 70 wins and 92 losses.
