The official day of Great Community Give is on April 19. Excited community members may start giving as early as April 5. The ‘Early Giving’ phase is happening between April 5 and April 18. Over 140 nonprofit organizations are accepting $10 or more donations online at greatcommunitygive.org and via cash and checks sent directly to their mailing addresses. Gifts made to listed agencies will count towards the overall totals during the 6th annual Great Community Give, scheduled for the third Wednesday in April, April 19, 2023, 6:30AM-8:00PM.
Great Community Give, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, is an annual sunrise to sunset giving day event that highlights local giving to Harrisonburg and Rockingham nonprofit agencies. Since its inception in 2018, donors raised a total $5,117,703 for community causes. Generous sponsors also contributed nearly $400,000 in direct support of participating agencies, making the initiative’s overall total roughly $5.5 million.
The 'Early Giving' phase is beneficial for nonprofits and donors. GCG2022 Early Giving phase reports over $250,000 in support of participating nonprofits. Event organizers recommend cash and check donors to send their $10 or more gifts directly to their chosen nonprofits either by mail or in person in advance of GCG’s official day on April 19th.
