Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Those are only some of the animals you could learn more about on Amazing Wildlife, the new podcast from the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. Each Friday, new 15-minute episodes hosted by SDZWA staff Ebone Monet and Rick Schwartz will welcome listeners into the wonderful world of wildlife. The work of the Zoo Alliance takes them all over the globe and across six continents, and you’ll be able to hear about animals, insects, reptiles, and ocean life from the scientists, researchers, and veterinarians who have dedicated their lives to understanding the animal world.

So far, they’ve explained the mysteries of an elephant’s trunk and how to distinguish an African elephant from an Asian elephant, as well as hearing about the work of an organization that protects orphaned elephants in Kenya. In another episode, they discuss the many mythologies around tigers, do a little myth-busting about white tigers, break down the six different subspecies, and learn about efforts to prevent tiger-human conflicts in Indonesia.

And did you know that polar bears aren’t actually white? In fact, their skin is black and their fur is clear! Speaking of bears, koalas aren’t one. Plus, they eat eucalyptus, which is poisonous to most animals. How do they manage to digest it? Polar bears and elephants both have specific parenting roles within their herds that Rick and Ebone explore as well, and they hear some inspiring stories of koala rescues during the devastating bushfires in Australia in 2020. If you like a quick, delightful, and educational look into the many wonderful species that inhabit our planet, this is fifteen minutes well spent. Wild out with Amazing Wildlife from the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.
