Two Metallica fans have been permanently banned from Perth’s Optus Stadium after a dangerous stunt during the band’s November 1 show led to criminal charges.
According to Perth Now, 20-year-old Beau William Loch Rollings and 23-year-old Rory Hugh Culbert decided to climb one of the massive speaker towers mid-concert in an effort to get a better view. The pair reportedly hopped a security barrier around 10:30 p.m. and spent nearly 20 minutes scaling the structure—reaching heights between 10 and 50 meters—before eventually climbing down.
Their adventure didn’t end at the show. Both men appeared in Perth Magistrates Court last week, where they pled guilty to trespassing. Investigators seized their phones, which contained videos of the incident, and prosecutors noted that neither man offered a clear reason for their behavior.
Rollings’ lawyer described the stunt as “stupid behavior,” while Rollings admitted he had been drinking. The magistrate reprimanded him, calling the climb “an incredibly stupid thing to do and a good way to ruin your night out.”
Rollings was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $308.80 in court fees. Culbert received nearly the same sentence. Both men were also issued lifetime bans from Optus Stadium.
