The Harrisonburg Police Department is currently conducting an investigation following an incident resulting in one individual being transported to UVA with a gunshot wound Monday evening.
HPD reports a male was shot on Greystone Street around 830 Monday night. The identity of the victim has not been released
According to a press release from HPD, a male was shot in the 1200 block of Greystone Street Monday evening around 8:15 pm. 911 callers had notified police of someone acting erratically in the area.
The male had been banging on doors of area homes, wearing only shoes and pants while trying to strike people with a large umbrella. A homeowner in the area was confronted by the suspect and fired once to prevent an assault. The suspect was flown to UV A and remains "in stable condition".
The homeowner who fired the shot and the suspect did not know each other and that this was most likely an isolated incident. The resident was detained for questioning and was released. Names of those involved are being withheld due to the investigation.
