Dream Theater Planning Live Album For 'Scenes From A Memory' Anniversary

Dream Theatre Performs In Rome

Dream Theater plans to further celebrate the 20th anniversary of its beloved Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory album with a live record.

The influential prog rockers have been performing the Scenes album on tour this year while also supporting their latest full-length, Distance Over Time. Co-founding guitarist John Petrucci recently confirmed the band's plans for another live record.

"We will eventually [record a concert] and we're talking about where to do that," Petrucci told PureGrainAudio in a new interview. "We have a long world tour ahead of us. There's going to be a lot of locations. Toronto would have been really cool, but we'll [decide] that later in the tour for sure."

Earlier in the chat, Petrucci explained that bringing the band's first concept album, Scenes, back to life live demands a lot from the band's production team.

"We want people to have a very stimulating visual experience," he said, "We try to do something new. This Scenes show we're doing is nothing like the original tour we did 20 years ago. This has all the new animated content, really depicting the story. That's what we try to do. Every time we go out, we try to do something fresh and unique, especially for people who have seen the band multiple times."

Dream Theater immortalized the live Scenes From a Memory concert experience on the 2001 album Live Scenes from New York, which featured actors and additional musicians.

Dream Theater wrapped up the first North American leg of its 'Distance Over Time 2019' tour earlier this month. The band's European tour begins in June.
